This project is cancelled. I had no idea that something as simple as trying to invite regular guys, through internet discussion groups, would stir up so much ill will and chaos. I will take full responsibility for trying to run with the idea and now I will take full responsibility for canceling it as well.

I feel very sorry for the guys that put properly directed effort, great ideas, and contributed in a positive way in the early stages of this experiment. I don’t want to discourage their further participation on DR.com message boards.

 But to the few that were ruthless and lacked respect for the project at hand, you ruined it for everyone. I don’t have to name names because everyone can make that decision for themselves and I’d hope that in the future, for the good of our message board, (I wish our board was more advanced like some others and we could just push an ignore button), just ignore the ones that are causing the trouble. Don’t even get started down this path, it leads nowhere.

On another note, I was so impressed with the proposal from the LA Sheriffs department, that they will still get an invitation to attend (maybe I need a free "get out of jail" card). I will give Pete Peterson, our web producer some leeway in working on one of the ideas he has that involves this board’s members, and if it comes together, maybe there is still a chance that some members of DR.com can still come out and enjoy the 24-Hours.

Sorry for the bad news. I’m as upset that this didn’t work out as you guys are for being shut down.
